The NHQWAVE project coordinator, the University of Crete (Physics Department, Center for Quantum Complexity and Nanotechnology) organized the conference entitled “Non-Hermitian Photonics in Complex Media: PT-symmetry and beyond” on 15-18 June 2016, in Heraklion, Greece, with 41 international participants, including NHQWAVE’s researchers (the project’s kick-off meeting took place during that period). NHQWAVE researchers have delivered talks and seminars and have participated in conferences and workshops in the project’s thematic research areas, and their contributions have been included in the conferences’ proceedings.

Outreach: NHQWAVE research areas were presented during CCQCN’s Outreach activities, which took place in (a) Rethymnon, Crete (21/4/2016), (b) Heraklion, Crete (June 2016) and (c) Spetses (16-17/9/2016). Additional outreach presentations to the school communities of Chania and Heraklion in Spring 2016 and in Spring 2017 (events under the auspices of the Region of Crete, involving students, parents, and educators) were conducted. Additional Outreach activities (highlighting emerging research areas, research jobs, research results, research trends, research perspective, responsible research) took place targeting the school communities of Heraklion (events under the auspices of the regional educational authorities, involving students, parents, and educators), namely: (a) presentations on November 19, 2016, by Dr. K. Makris, to the students, parents, and educators at the 2nd General Lyceum of Heraklion on quantum and nano physics and technology including research infrastructure and results (it was organized by the Physics Association of Crete); and (b) presentation to Heraklion educators (science teachers), on December 13, 2016 on quantum/nano science and responsible research (organized by 1st and 2nd EKFE of Heraklion).
