Access to the Quantum Complexity and Nanotechnology Center (CCQCN)

  • Reaching Heraklion by air

The closest airport is that of the city of Heraklion Kazatzakis Airport. Olympic Airlines, and Aegean Airlines fly regularly to Heraklion from Athens and Thessaloniki (Salonica).
From April to October there are also numerous direct charter flights from many places in Europe.
From the airport you can reach the
center of Heraklion (~5 Kms), where most hotels are located, the seaside suburb of Amoudara (~8-9 Kms), where some other hotels are located, and the Physics Department (~13 Kms), either by taxi or by bus.

  • Reaching Heraklion By Sea

Throughout the year there are 3 daily trips connecting Heraklion with Piraeus (Athens). The boats usually sail during the night and the trip is about 7hrs. For boat shcedule and fares please check: Minoan Lines, ANEK Lines and Superfast Ferries.

  • From Airport to City center

When you arrive at the Heraklion airport, you have two options to get to the city and to your hotel: You can either use public transportation (a bus) or a taxi. We highly recommend the taxi option, since you will be able to find one immediately outside the arrivals building and it will take you directly to your destination. Taxi fares for this route are circa 10 euros.

  • From Port to City center

Heraklion port is located close to the city center. To reach your hotel, you can either utilize a taxi (there are always a number of taxis available upon exiting the ship) or opt for a short walk as most hotels are located close to the center.

  • Reaching CCQCN

Ask the taxi driver to get you to campus of the University of Crete in Voutes, near the University Hospital and FORTH (Foundation of Research and Technology, pronounced 'eete'). From there, ask the taxi driver to get you to the "Physics Departmnet" where CCQCN is located.

You may stop a passing-by taxi in the street by simply raising your hand. You can also call for a taxi at the numbers (+30) 2810-361362 and (+30) 2810-210102. Expect an additional fee when you call the taxi by phone.

Approximate taxi fares for some common routes are as following:

  • Airport to CCQCN: 17.5-20 €

  • Airport to Eleftherias Square (city centre): 8-10 €

  • Eleftherias Square to CCQCN: 13-15 €
