A short term scientific mission in the framework of the COST Action TD1105 EuNetAir allowed Dr. Binas to visit the Electronic Ceramics Department at Jozef Sefan Institute on September 2013 with special focus on ink development of functional metal oxides for advanced gas sensors.
Prof. Kiriakidis & Dr. Binas recently have developed a printable UV Sensor with very good sensitivity in UV light. In the adjacent picture, the ink developed by the research team comprises nanoparticles of titania doped with manganese. The size of the particles in the ink is less than 270nm. The chart shows how the conductivity changes under the radiation of the UV light. More precisely, when UV light is turned-on, conductivity increases, whereas when UV light is turned-off, conductivity immediately decreases. This phenomenon remains stable after a lot of cycles.
The TCM Group is under further research in order to improve the Printable UV Sensor response.
