Welcome to the “Non-Hermitian Photonics in Complex Media: PT-symmetry and beyond” Workshop

The focus of this workshop will be on a wide range of recent developments at the forefront of research in the area of parity-time (PT) symmetric Optics, and in general systems that contain gain and loss. The workshop aims of bringing together leading experts in the area, as well as, junior scientists and graduate students and discuss the present and future of the physics and engineering of non-Hermitian Photonics.

Topics of the workshop include:

  • Parity-Time (PT) symmetric Optics

  • Exceptional Point physics

  • Symmetry breaking in complex lasers

  • Gain and loss engineering

  • Non-Hermitian dynamics in waveguides, cavities and photonic lattices

  • Non-Hermitian metamaterials and plasmonics

  • Topological effects in non-Hermitian and PT systems

The workshop will take place in the historic town of Heraklion, a vibrant city which besides the well known academic setting of the University of Crete and the nearby Foundation for Research and Technology also offers numerous possibilities for cultural explorations.

The workshop is supported by the newly established Crete Center for Quantum Complexity and Nanotechnology, hosted at the Physics Department of the University of Crete, through the European  Union’s  7th Framework Programme  FP7-REGPOT-2012-2013-1.

WORKSHOP’s DURATION

The workshop starts on Wednesday, June 15 (welcome day). The talks will start on 16 June at 09.00, and end on Saturday, June 18.
